As I sipped my morning coffee one winter, I would stare out the kitchen window at the snow that had blanketed the yard. Temperatures were cold & typical for the month of February. Over the next several days, I watched the transformation of icicles hanging off the gutters as the snow slowly melted on the roof. Days went by as I watched the icicles grow and transform into works of art through the freeze, melt, refreeze process. Unable to just stand by any longer, I devised a simple studio setup on my back deck. The hard part came when I attempted to pluck the fragile works off their base of frozen ice on the gutter. I went for the best one first and unfortunately, it did not make it. Several suffered a similar fate but many came off quite easily. Over the course of that day, I worked diligently to capture these icicles as they slowly started to melt. As the day wore on the icicles morphed through the melting process reinventing themselves. I continually look for icicles during the winter months as they continue to intrigue me. Like a snowflake, each one is unique unto themself.
